Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Photo Revive free to use?

Yes, the core features of Photo Revive are completely free to use. All standard processing and most AI-powered enhancements run directly in your browser at no cost. The only exception is the "Gemini AI" colorization method, which relies on the Google API. This specific option may incur API costs depending on your usage with Google, and we provide a clear warning in the app when it is selected.

Q: Are my photos safe? Do you store them?

Your privacy is our top priority. For most operations, your photos are processed directly in your web browser and never leave your computer. For features that require more processing power (like DeOldify or Gemini AI colorization), your image is sent to a secure server for processing and is deleted immediately after the result is sent back to you. We do not store, share, or view your images.

Q: Can I use the enhanced images for commercial purposes?

Absolutely. You retain full ownership of both your original images and the enhanced results you create with our service. You are free to use them for any purpose, personal or commercial, without any restrictions from us.

Q: What file formats can I upload?

You can upload images in the most common web formats: PNG, JPG (JPEG), and WEBP.

Q: What's the difference between the "Standard" and "AI Enhanced" methods?

The "Standard" methods use traditional, powerful computer vision algorithms (from libraries like OpenCV) that run very quickly in your browser. They are great for fast, reliable results. The "AI Enhanced" methods use advanced machine learning models (like ESRGAN for upscaling) to produce higher-quality, more detailed results, but they often require more processing power and may take longer to complete.

Q: Why is the processing sometimes slow?

Image processing, especially with AI models, is a computationally intensive task. Since most of the work is done on your own computer (in your browser), performance can vary depending on your device's hardware. AI-enhanced options will generally take longer than standard ones. For the best experience, we recommend using a modern computer and browser.

Q: Who made Photo Revive?

Photo Revive is a passion project built to explore the possibilities of modern, in-browser image processing. You can learn more about the technology and our mission on our About page.
